01
Check Store Country before payment
The store's country is stored in the account settings and is associated with the store's currency. It is more important than the interface language and the user’s current location.
If you are topping up another person's account, ask the store's country, not their country of residence.
Open Account Details.
Check Store Country and Currency.
Don't rely on the language of the application.

Balance and gift are not the same thing
Wallet top-up gives account balance. A Steam Gift is a separate purchase sent to another account and may vary depending on regional rules.
If the goal is to gift a specific game, it is better to check the game's restrictions before purchasing balance.
| Target | What to check | Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Buy the game for yourself | Product page region | Game unavailable |
| Give a game | Is it possible to send to the recipient | Gift is limited |
| Top up balance | Wallet currency | Another currency was expected |
03
When top-up is better than code
top-up is convenient if the user chooses the game later or wants to pay for several small purchases. The code is convenient as a gift when the recipient activates the balance himself.
In both cases, save your order confirmation until credited or activated.
04
Account Security
To top up, you do not need to provide a password, Steam Guard code or access to mail. If the seller asks you to log into your account for you, it is better to choose another purchase method.
After large deposits, it is useful to check your transaction history and active devices.
