01
Start a family
Open the Steam client or website, log into the desired account and go to account information. In the family management section, choose to create a new family and give it a friendly name.
If the item is not visible, update the Steam client and check the official Steam Families section: the location of the settings may change.
Log in to the creator's account.
Open family management.
Create a family and check the composition of the participants.
02
Invite a person
In family settings, select a participant invitation, find his account and specify the role: adult or child. Ask the person to accept the invitation on their Steam. Make sure he understands what family he is joining.
Don't share your Steam password for invitations: everyone needs their own account.
Adults control family composition; Parental settings are provided for children's accounts.
03
If the invitation does not go through
Check to see if the member limit has been reached and if the account is already in another family. Steam enforces restrictions on family changes and verifies household membership. See the Steam message and official help for the exact reason, rather than try to bypass the restriction with a new account.
Check the role and invitation recipient.
Read Steam error text.
If necessary, contact Steam Support.
